Vela Greece activities in 2025

Working in close cooperation with national authorities, international organisations and partners, Vela Greece delivers child protection programmes inside Reception and Identification Centres and Controlled Access Facilities for Temporary Accommodation of Asylum Seekers.

Operations at Malakasa began in March 2024 with private funding and were soon integrated into MERIMNA III, strengthening and formalising services. In May 2025 we expanded to Drama; in April 2025 Malakasa joined MERIMNA IV, followed by Drama in September — a programme implemented by IOM Greece with the support of the Czech Republic.

Since 15 October 2025 our teams have been operating in Malakasa, Drama and Kavala under the project “Strengthening protection systems for children and women applicants and beneficiaries of international protection”, implemented by IOM and funded by the Ministry of Migration and Asylum's National Development Programme 2021–2025.

We provide case management, Best Interest Assessments, psychosocial support, legal information, non-formal education and access to school and healthcare — investing in staff training and in strong coordination and quality assurance mechanisms.
